Jim Shaw studied Mechanical Engineering with Automotive Design at Coventry University and chartered as a Mechanical Engineer before completing a Masters degree in Engineering Business Management at the University of Warwick, all under the sponsorship of the Rover Group.
Before Jim came to Bentley, he worked in the creation and realisation of vehicle concepts across all of the brands previously owned by the Rover group; from Mini to Range Rover, MG to Defender and all classes of Rover cars in between. As part of the BMW group, he also worked on a number of projects and initiatives at the headquarters in Munich. As an automotive design engineer working in packaging, style feasibility and advanced vehicle research, he developed the skills used to head up the Bentley Concept Engineering department.
Working for Bentley, he had executive responsibilities and dealings with all of the VW group technical departments, predominantly with Audi, Bugatti and Porsche, and as CDO he expanded his network across the whole of the VW group.
Jim’s main motivations included defining the processes for product and service innovation whilst empowering a culture for research and development in low volume, high value-added techniques and technologies.
Jim established his own consultancy, bloom³, in 2019 to bring his passion and experience to a wider roll call of clients, from luxury automotive OEM to digital start-ups--where he enjoys the challenges of a greater diversity in new domains.
