Gamechanger – introducing multiple point of view immersive VR on an LED wall

Traditionally, tracked multi point of view 3D immersive environments have used projection as the display source to bring the visuals to life…but that is about to change!

We have achieved the first multi point of view interactive VR experience on a fine pixel pitch display down to 1.2mm. Working with LED manufacturer SiliconCore and its patented driver chip innovations, we are able to deliver a two-person real time tracked solution.

This means that instead of the world just moving to the exact perspective of one participant, two people can be immersed accurately in the virtual dataset in tandem or one person can be tracked while the wider audience has a fixed point, viewing in active 3D.

We use an ART tracking system and Volfoni active 3D glasses to bring the complex datasets to life, with our Visionary Render software powering the backend.

What is a multiple person point of view wall?

MPOV walls are designed for shared experiences, making them ideal for collaborative work, group training and interactive presentations. Multiple users can simultaneously engage with the virtual environment, fostering teamwork for applications including collaborative design sessions, group training and team-based decision-making.

MPOV walls are typically fixed installations within a physical space. This is advantageous for dedicated environments where consistent and immersive experiences are required, such as a design studio, laboratory or educational environment.

Reaching 240hz

The 240hz frame rate has been the gamechanger here. We have been able to utilise this so each viewer sees the data aligned with a different frequency, meaning they can be exploring the same dataset but tracked from their physical position, or a different dataset entirely, depending on the use case and desired experience.

SiliconCore is the only LED manufacturer designing its own driver chips, uniquely positioning them to maximise the efficiency and performance of each pixel. Its patented Common Cathode driver chip technologies are the secret to achieving the fast clock speeds that enable frame rates of 240hz and a refresh rate of 7680hz.

The benefits of LED

Higher resolution – the finer the pixel pitch, the more data can be included, creating a detailed and immersive visual experience for users

Brightness – higher brightness solutions for optimum experience

Scalability – displays can be configured to any scale or aspect ratio

Space saving – the compact nature of an LED module saves significant space compared to throw distances and operational considerations for projection

Reliability – LED displays can be serviced in the field by the onsite team

Reduced down time – the ability to quickly resolve challenges by swapping modules ensures mission critical work is uninterrupted

Lifetime – LED delivers over 100,000 hours of operation

Sustainability – due to the efficiency of SiliconCore’s patented Common Cathode driver technology the displays operate at a power reduction of 20-40%

The Experience with LED

Improved collaboration and teamwork – multiple people can experience the same virtual environment simultaneously, with the world moving to multiple true perspectives, not just giving the optimum experience to a single user

Enhanced realism – essential for training and simulation scenarios that that require teamwork and coordination, for fields like healthcare, aviation and emergency services

Increased interaction – for interactive presentations and demonstrations – get people closer to the details for sales pitches, product launches and at trade shows

Elevated engagement - creates a more engaging and memorable experience for customers in retail environments, virtual showrooms and for experiential marketing campaigns

Personalised experience – using the 240hz frame rate each user can have a personalised experience, overlaying different digital information onto the real-world environment simultaneously

Second screen - the wider audience also has a better viewing experience with a fixed point of view

Use Cases

Collaborative design – to increase right-first-time design and reduce time to market

Manufacturing - enable seamless collaboration across the supply chain

Training and simulation – to enhance realism with a ‘hands on’ approach to learning

Virtual meetings – for local and global collaboration

Architectural walkthroughs – for stakeholder buy-in and to remove technical jargon

Client presentations – showcase environments in 1:1 scale for an experience just as good as being there
