Virtalis, the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) and the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Hartree Centre are co-sponsoring the University of Liverpool’s Formula Student Team for 2014.
Already, the sponsors have introduced the team to Virtalis’ Visionary Render software in VEC’s Virtual Reality (VR) laboratories at Daresbury, which were designed and installed by Virtalis.
Formula Student is an international competition in which top engineering students design, build and race a single seat racing car. Formula Student attracts entries from universities all over the world.
Formula Student represents a valuable project that blends academic work and learning with the development of practical engineering skills.
Virtalis MD, David Cockburn-Price, commented: “We are delighted to support this year’s design, helping Liverpool’s young engineers in their bid for pole position. Our Visionary Render software could be their secret weapon. We’ve already supplied software training and the students have seen for themselves how their 3D designs come to life, allowing them to investigate and understand their design in the virtual world and make improvements, before committing to a physical prototype.”
The VEC is working closely with Virtalis, one of the world’s leading VR companies, to provide this year’s team with access to the latest virtual engineering tools and facilities to inform the team’s design process and achieve a winning formula.
Liverpool’s Formula Student team, which consists of third and fourth year Mechanical Engineering students, have already gathered at the VEC to give presentations on their early design to a combination of experienced engineers, university supervisors and graduates from last year’s team.
Key Note speaker, John Eldridge, Principal Engineer at Sellafield Ltd, discussed plans for the new racing car with the students and commended their enthusiasm for the project.
