Virtual Reality Has Real Benefits for BIM

Evidence highlights that BIM (Building Information Modelling), when effectively utilised, implemented and managed appropriately, can help drive efficiency gains in an industry historically limited in productivity improvements.

BIM can reduce risk levels and improve design management around key activities such as, design development, coordination and health and safety. Virtual Reality can help to identify potential problems in the design before construction commences and reduce coordination errors. Contractors are able to manage and reduce risk through using BIM for 4D simulation, on site spatial coordination, and clash detection.

Whilst the current market uptake for VR solutions as part of a BIM strategy are low (around 3-4% of BIM users), new lower cost hardware solutions and easier to integrate and use application solutions could lead to a rapid uptake over the next 5 years.
