The British Geological Survey
The British Geological Survey (BGS) is responsible for advising the UK government on all aspects of geoscience as well as providing impartial geological advice to industry, academia and the public.
BGS first collaborated with Virtalis in 2005, when BGS installed two identical Virtalis StereoWorks tracked visualisation systems at its Keyworth HQ and its Edinburgh office. Recently, teams from the two organisations have created a Virtual Field Application which is used daily by BGS and which is based on a stunning new application developed by Virtalis – the GeoVisionary data engine.
It enables the visualisation of underlying geological modelling in 3D and allows other related geoscience data, such as geotechnical, environmental and geochemical information to be overlaid onto it, giving a complete picture. Users can stream terabytes of data and fly around the model in real-time, giving a sense of freedom never before experienced.
