The Opportunity

Solutions Engineers work alongside Sales Executives to discover customers’ business challenges. This position requires creating unique, rich solution prototypes to present back to the customer’s decision-makers, illustrating value and benefits via an engaging story. Solutions Engineer is a role that depends as much on creativity and problem-solving as on tech skills. Virtalis is looking for a balance of perspectives and skillsets, not just technical expertise. Strong business acumen, creativity, storytelling and listening skills are just as important.

Solutions Engineers fall into two broad categories: more technical SEs and business SEs. Technical SEs are truly passionate about VR/AR/XR developments and devices, computer vision science, security, APIs, integration, etc. They are problem solvers and challengers, with the capability to offer detailed explanations for strategic decisions. Business SEs, meanwhile, surprise and delight customers with creative, benefit-rich solution prototypes. We aim to build a well-balanced team, with different backgrounds and varied skills, so that we can offer the best experiences to our customers.

To look beyond technological backgrounds allows us to focus on underlying ‘soft’ skills. We realise the value of non-traditional skills in tech-focused roles.

Responsibilities:

  • You play a pivotal role in aligning innovative digital immersive visualisation technology with a rapidly changing business process in the core of our client’s business. This role focuses on partnering with clients and collaborating with internal team members and C-level client contacts to drive consensus on the suitability of our solutions.
  • You are easily accepted in the role of trusted advisor for driving innovative solutions forward while also improving business performance.

The Solutions Engineer focuses primarily in these four areas:

  • Business problem solving: Take ambiguous and complex business problems and use research and business assessment capabilities, define the problem, drive innovative ideas
  • Innovation management: Bring rigour to a client’s decision-making process by presenting and evaluating solution options and driving consensus among key stakeholders. In some instances, we help our clients develop new decision frameworks and governance processes that continue to deliver value far beyond a particular engagement.
  • Connect experiences: Demonstrate through software demos and rapid prototyping how connected experiences come to life with our products. This includes the delivery of executive level software demonstrations, construction of future state customer journey strategies, and developing long term IT roadmaps.
  • Industry understanding & experience: You have considerable knowledge and experience working with industrial accounts in the engineering and manufacturing world. The SE will need to be comfortable discussing the challenges and needs of this industry with C-Level executives. Credibility and trust is a core characteristic and our customers expect engagement in their language and terms with focus on their unique needs.

What we're looking for:

  • Previous experience as a Solutions Engineer or other customer-facing role
  • Passionate about immersive visualisation and a broad knowledge of XR technology trends
  • Ability to understand, communicate and manage across the entire sales cycle, using structured methodology like Grand Demo or similar
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; dynamic (persuasive) in presenting ideas to clients and prospective clients from VP to C-level
  • Past experience in organisational design consulting or process optimisation is a strong plus, or having worked in an XR innovation role at an industrial engineering company
  • Analyse, structure and negotiate long-term technology roadmap initiatives with clients and partners
  • New business opportunity identification and qualification
  • Ability to work with a broad team across multiple disciplines and being a pro-active self-starter
  • Ability to travel 20-30% of your time
