Virtalis open for business in South Africa

Following the success of the recent installation of a Virtalis ActiveWall at the University of Western Cape’s Department of Applied Geology, Virtalis has identified South Africa as a key market for Virtual Reality (VR) technology. The agreement with Gavin Olivier of Digital Fabric as a Virtalis representative is an important first step, enabling it to both support its installations in South Africa and show the benefits of true, interactive VR.

Gavin is the face of 3D in South Africa, having been in the business for almost 20 years”, said David Cockburn-Price, Virtalis MD. “We are delighted to have secured him to help us with both our existing Virtalis systems and the numerous opportunities that appear to be coming our way in the region.”

Digital Fabric is the brains behind some of the most prestigious interactive museum exhibits in South Africa; including the Apartheid Museum, The Origins Centre and the multi award-winning Liliesleaf Farm. He commented: “Naturally, I knew about Virtalis and their pioneering work in advanced visualisation and now haptics. I’ve already worked with the Virtalis Systems Team and, like them, I am very hands-on with the technology.  So far there has been very little use of VR outside of the leisure industry, so the time is ripe for South African industry and academia to embrace Virtalis’ exciting technology.”
