Virtalis Bucks Economic Trend with US Expansion
Virtual Reality Company, Virtalis, has expanded into the US. David Cockburn-Price, Virtalis MD, explains: “We have never been so busy. Recent months have seen us winning a great deal of overseas business and almost doubling the size of our technical team. In a recession, people look to cut costs and VR is an excellent way to do it with a superb RoI and rapid payback. With an increasing number of installations in the US, it makes sense for us to have a team permanently based there, both to service our existing customers and to bring our unique technology to new ones. We hope to expand rapidly within the US and establish a top team.”
The new US business, Virtalis Inc., has been fortunate to recruit two 3D visualisation experts to head up what is hoped to become a burgeoning US team. Guy LaBelle, who is based in Houston, the heart of the US’s oil and gas industry, was, until recently, a field Sales Engineer for Barco and is a 3D projection system specialist. Guy has been involved in over fifty high specification VR installations, including Mexico City’s Planetarium.
Kalen Gordon has already been busy working on Virtalis installations in the US. “Both the Kalamazoo Air Zoo and the PTC HQ have had upgrades and I have completed, with Guy, a technically challenging installation at Case New Holland. We have just returned from a training trip to Virtalis UK and are both buzzing with ideas.” Kalen has a wealth of projector and cabling experience and has also carved out a reputation for creating special effects for films, something he describes as an abiding passion.
“Surprisingly,” says Guy, “the US lacks a 3D visualisation company that does both hardware and software. The fact Virtalis does both means that it will be able to offer turnkey installations across a range of sectors just like it does in the UK. As more and more sectors, including defence, R&D, oil and gas and engineering, use 3D visualisation as a routine tool, Virtalis Inc. should find itself extraordinarily well placed.”
