SensAble

OpenHaptics Toolkit

Virtalis distributes the SensAble OpenHaptics toolkit, which enables software developers to add haptics and true 3D navigation to a broad range of applications from design to games and entertainment to simulation and visualisation. Using the OpenHaptics toolkit, developers can use an existing OpenGL code for specifying geometry, and supplement it with OpenHaptics commands to simulate haptic material properties such as friction and stiffness. The flexible architecture enables developers to add functionality to support new types of shapes. It is also designed to integrate third-party libraries such as physics/dynamics and collision detection engines. The OpenHaptics toolkit supports the range of SensAble PHANTOM devices from the low-cost PHANTOM Omni device to the larger PHANTOM Premium devices.

PHANTOM®

The SensAble Technologies PHANTOM® product line of haptic devices makes it possible for users to touch and manipulate virtual objects.

The PHANTOM 1.5/6DOF and 3.0/6DOF devices allow users to explore application areas that require force feedback in six degrees of freedom (6DOF). Examples include virtual assembly, virtual prototyping, maintenance path planning, teleoperation, and molecular modeling. Simulating torque force feedback makes it possible to feel the collision and reaction forces and torques of a part in a virtual assembly path, or the rotational torques supported by a remote "slave" robot in a teleoperation environment. These devices provide force feedback in three translational degrees of freedom. Additionally, both systems provide torque feedback in three rotational degrees of freedom in the yaw, pitch and roll directions.

PHANTOM Desktop™

The award-winning PHANTOM Desktop haptic device provides an affordable desktop solution. The PHANTOM Desktop provides precision positioning input and high fidelity force-feedback output. It is portable with a compact footprint and a simple parallel port interface to ensure both quick installation and ease-of-use.

SensAble Phantom OmniPHANTOM Omni™

The PHANTOM Omni™ model is the most cost-effective haptic device available today. It too is portable and compact.

“I’ve combined this with Freeform for the virtual sculpting I did on the landscapes for our Helicopter Crew Reality product.”- Tim Goodwin, Virtalis Modeller

The PHANTOM Omni™ has featured on the BBC News being used by one of our customers, Dr Mark Mon-Williams and his team at Aberdeen, to research into the movement and co-ordination difficulties children experience when suffering from Dyspraxia and related disorders.

ClayTools

The ClayTools system provides sculptural modelling for digital content creation and is recognised by the art world. It combines modelling speed and with an ability to sculpt complex, organic shapes for disciplines such as sculpture and jewellery design. It allows artists and designers to model in a faster, unconstrained, and more flexible way.
ClayTools can be used with with 3ds Max, Maya, Rhino, and other design applications that support .stl and .obj I/O.  It can be used to create texture maps from high-res, detailed models to apply to optimised poly models for games, videos, and films. As its output is digital, it is possible to create multiple versions, duplicate handcrafted modifications, and create and use a library of parts. This makes ClayTools ideal for rapid prototyping or casting.
