Visualisation Systems

Put simply, visualisation systems, whatever their application, are what we do.  Our reputation is based on our successful installations worldwide.  Whether is a curved screen PC clustered screen for a theatre, a fully immersive system or a portable system, Virtalis has successfully designed and installed them all with even shades of grey in between.

 StereoWorks Technology

Our StereoWorks visualisation system, launched three years ago and constantly updated since, forms the technological core on many of our advanced visualisation installations and stereoscopic display systems.

As well as supporting CAD software for real-time stereo design, StereoWorks also offers high-resolution digital stereo movie playback at very high bandwidth.  The StereoWorks range consists of the latest stereo viewing hardware coupled with the Company’s own specialist software suite, StereoTools.  The basic system, which offers SXGA resolution, has two small projectors, a seven-foot screen and a compact PC image generator with wireless control.  Prices start from £20,000, making the range significantly more affordable than competitor systems offering less functionality.

Virtalis’s internally developed software suite, StereoTools, is built upon its proprietary system, KRender.  This powers StereoWorks, enabling high-resolution digital stereo movie playback on multiple, synchronised projectors on screens over 100 square metres in size.  The resolution achievable on such a screen size is tens of millions of pixels.  This is 10-20 times the quality of television.  KRender brings subtlety to models, movies and animation, as it is able to supply non-linear image mapping and soft edge blending.  The system can cope with all screen shapes and sizes by digitally adjusting the images to fit to the screen before they are sent to the projectors.  The end result is a high resolution, distortion-free seamless image projected onto angular, cylindrical or even spherical screens of any size.

Andrew Connell, Virtalis’ technical director and Richard Davies, Virtalis’ Development Team Leader, are a formidable duo who have designed hundreds of different visualisation systems over the last few years.  They relish the change of integrating new or unusual peripherals and Virtalis has developed numerous drivers for the complete panoply of VR kit.  The Virtalis installation team is simply the largest, most experienced in Europe.

Independent

Virtalis is a proud partner of all the leading names in VR and is also exclusive reseller to a myriad of peripherals suppliers, from headsets to trackers to haptics devices.  See our partners and product pages for more details.  Our experience and volume of business is such that, unlike many companies who purport to understand this complex market, we really do.  We can advise on what piece of kit would best complement your visualisation system a fulfil the function you want it to fulfil.  Our independent status is yet another aspect of Virtalis that marks us out.

What our customers say about our Visualisation Systems

Here is what some of our clients say about their Virtalis Visualisation Systems, each and everyone of them different in configuration:

Dr. Brett Stevens, deputy director of postgraduate computing programmes at The University of Portsmouth, explained: “Ever since I first saw a large scale Virtual Reality (VR) system demonstrated five years ago, I knew I wanted one!  At the same time, I was certain we didn’t want an off-the-shelf system, but something specifically tailored for our needs.  I then came up with a configuration that I thought was theoretically possible and approached Virtalis, to see if they could make it happen”.

David Reeves, vice president, sales, PTC, commented: ”Our 30 seat theatre provides the showcase for our Pro/ENGINEER® and Mockup products.  We naturally want our software to be shown in a world-class manner with the best image quality possible.  We also needed a robust system.  Virtalis is well known for its technical knowledge, especially its understanding of PTC’s products.  They have supplied us with a complete solution which features precise 3D tracking”.

Roger Critchley, marketing director of AREVA T&D’s Power Electronics Business, explained: “Our stereo 3D presentations, that we now give at larger exhibitions and conferences all over the world, are always the star turn.  Our stand reliably attracts queues and has a real buzz.  Not only do you get a real sense of scale, but you can “explore”, so potential customers can, for example, “fly” down wires, look round the virtual control room and even enter the valve hall where the large power electronics converters are housed.  In the past, this would not have been possible without arduous foreign travel by sales teams and customers alike”.
