VIRTALIS has ordered the first Christie Mirage WU7 3D active stereo projectors in Europe as part of a £1.5m contract issued by The University of Northampton. Virtalis technology director, Andrew Connell, confirms that the Virtual Reality (VR) specialists had also been first in line for the original Mirage SXGA projectors when they were first released. The arrival of the new WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution devices could not have come at a better time, he said.

MANTRA is a specially modified demonstration HGV that travels the UK demonstrating the latest manufacturing, machinery and simulation technologies.

VIRTALIS’ latest recruit to its Development Team is Mark Kelly, an experienced 3D graphics developer whose entire career to date has been in the computer games industry. Working on all types of 3D rendering and graphics models for a diverse range of gaming platforms, including Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox, and PC platforms, Mark has joined Virtalis as a software engineer. “I am enjoying applying my 3D graphics experience and skills to serious, real world applications and understanding the range of projects I will be working on”, said Mark. “Games today have 3D Graphics Engines similar to Virtual Reality (VR) in their lineage so I relish the challenge of creating the most realistic 3D virtual environments possible for VR with Virtalis.”

THE UNIVERSITY of Northampton has ordered a unique, five sided ActiveCube and two StereoWorks ActiveWalls from Virtalis. The £1.5 million order represents half the value of the equipment for the University’s new, £8 million NVision Centre. Grants for the prestigious facility have been secured in the form of matched funding from the East Midlands Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund, with further financial support from Northamptonshire Enterprise Ltd.
