ENGINEERING
Advanced visualisation & Virtual Reality (VR) are becoming increasingly central tools to engineers of all kinds as part of their PLM strategy. Virtalis offersvirtual prototyping solutions which generate tangible and intangible benefits throughout the product lifecycle. We allow users to go beyond "digital mock-up" and enter the immersive, interactive world of "virtual mock-up".
Virtalis’ close links to leading CAD providers like PTC, Siemens, Dassault Systèmes and Autodesk mean that we are best placed to help you get the most from your existing digital CAD assets. Our experience in working with massive data sets means we can load terabytes of CAD data for, say, a frigate or a nuclear submarine into a single VR model that can be accessed by designers, manufacturers or training providers. Such VR models can run on good quality laptops in real-time whilst an immersive display system, such as Virtalis' ActiveWall or ActiveSpace, allows users to "get inside" their models and interact with them.
Virtual prototypes can be used throughout the Product Lifecycle:
- Design - virtual prototypes to check accuracy/quality of design, check ergonomics/reachability & sightlines, accelerate time to produce/market; communicate with stakeholders.
- Manufacturing - improve understanding, minimise rework, improve build quality, reduce strain, optimise production-line and plant.
- Marketing & Training - accelerate time to market & visibility, enhance understanding & communication, reduce risk to person & equipment, be seen to be innovative.
Companies like BAE Systems and Paccar Trucks report that Virtalis technology has allowed them to do away with physical prototypes entirely. CaseNewHolland has connected up its facilities in Europe, North America and South America to carry out collaborative design reviews, share best practice and enhance its use of marketing focus groups. This means they get better quality products to market faster, both saving money and earning profits.
"We use our virtual reality systems on a daily basis to conduct collaborative design reviews"
Kezhun Li, Head of Digital Prototyping and Simulation at CNH.
"A very important aspect of these new VR facilities is that they provide real time access to the virtual model and related engineering data. The images arerear projected, which not only protects the equipment from a harsh environment, but also allows our workforce to interact with the virtual models without interfering with the projected image. Virtalis has also carried out work optimising the data production process for the models we create - this not only improves the performance of the VR Cabins, but shaves off valuable minutes of load time for the desktop 3D available to all the Astute engineers."
Keith Livingston, Support Manager for CAD/CAM application at BAE SYSTEMS Submarines.
