The Patriot is available as a wireless system, allowing the user to move much more freely

ACCURATE tracking is a vital component of Virtual Reality (VR) and is something that Virtalis has many years of experience in building into its systems. The tracker plots a person’s movements in a virtual environment in real time, giving the user a very realistic experience.

The Patriot from Polhemus is well recognised as an excellent entry-level system and Virtalis is the exclusive Polhemus reseller for the UK. The system is used widely in medical research to track the movement of surgeons’ hands among other applications. Now the Patriot is available as a wireless system, allowing the user to move much more freely.

David Hendon, systems sales manager at Virtalis, explained: “This development brings wireless tracking to people who couldn’t previously afford it. The price for a single marker system is a very reasonable £3,500 and the price for a large area, four-marker system is £7,500. The accuracy of tracking is a very reasonable 4 mm. I expect the Patriot Wireless to be in great demand from the education sector.”

The beauty of this technology is that by fixing the receivers and wearing the transmitters, the interference from metals is minimised. Each marker is tracked in space by a sensor receptor that covers 2.43 metres or eight feet diameter.
