Virtalis appointed as UK's only reseller of WorldViz

Vizard software & PPT tracking from WorldVizVIRTALIS, Europe’s leading Advanced Visualisation Company, has been appointed as the UK reseller for WorldViz hardware and software.

Peter Schlueer, president of WorldViz, commented: “Expert integrators and companies with a wealth of experience, like Virtalis, drive the development of our products.  Virtalis was the obvious choice for us in the UK.  Their Vizard logovaried applications and customer base will help us to see where the market for Virtual Reality (VR) is going.”

WorldViz has developed a wealth of VR-related devices and software.  Principal among these WorldViz software and tracking linked to an NVIS HMD at I/ITSEC2005are the Vizard Virtual Reality Toolkit, a software platform for the development of high-performance 3D graphics applications, and PPT, an optical wide-area position tracking system.

Vizard is a 3D toolkit enabling the creation of interactive 3D content.  The software was designed for rapid prototyping and lets the user choose between two scripting levels.  Users with no programming experience can create interactive 3D content and instantly interface with a broad range of hardware devices via the simple scripting language, Python.  Experts can utilise a C++ interface in the Enterprise Version of the software. Digital humans can easily be inserted to populate the virtual environments developed.  Vizard supports all major head-mounted displays, LCD shutter glasses and other display technologies.

PPT offers high-quality optical tracking over very large areas (more than 10 x 10 metres).  Using proven camera-based technology and proprietary WorldViz image processing technology, the PPT family of products delivers flexible and accurate tracking.  As a 60 Hz real-time system, the tracker registers the instant a subject performs a motion.  The system is quick to calibrate, unaffected by the metal content of the room in which it is being used and integrates easily with real-time rendering tools.

David Hendon, Virtalis’ VR peripherals expert, explained: “WorldViz has managed to successfully address many of the shortcomings of previous VR technology, while adding to their functionality, to make affordable, usable products.  Their whole product line combines well with other systems in complex installations and offers outstanding value for money.  For example, a single user, academic licence for Vizard is a mere £2,200, while a complete six degree of freedom tracking system for use in a metal rich environment, can be assembled for under £8,000.
