Virtalis is Europe’s longest established and best resourced immersive and interactive advanced visualisation company. These skills have given us a significant, international, multi-sector reputation and we have carried out several high profile projects in the fields of entertainment and heritage.

This is set to increase as a result of the declining cost of advanced visualisation techniques since the advent of more powerful PCs, the PC cluster and the growing popularity of 3D/4D cinema, interactive museum exhibits and “dark rides”. We have proven the scalability, flexibility and reliability of such solutions in other sectors and are now able to use them for creating value for money entertainment installations.

The stereo viewing element of Virtalis systems is what gives them the “wow” factor. However, in addition, the systems are reusable for other displays (2D or 3D, real-time or movie playback) and easily upgradeable, giving a quick and strong return on investment. We have proved that the use of advanced visualisation at the planning stage reduces design errors, so helping to keep projects running to timetable without the need for any rework, and accelerates and enhances the selling and marketing of new projects and products.

The two most prestigious recent projects Virtalis has completed in this sector were for the National Space Centre in Leicester, UK and the Kalamazoo Air Museum in Michigan, US. Both these exciting attractions have proved to be a great draw for the organisations involved and have also been reliable and robust.

Andy Gregory, Creative Services Manager for the Production Department at The National Space Centre, commented, “Our facility involves both physical movement and stereoscopic images, to create a believable future simulation technology. There are very few theatres offering this level of realism anywhere in the world. We turned to Virtalis to help us design the installation because their experience is unparalleled and we knew they could supply a turnkey system using their StereoWorks package. We want to capture people’s imagination by presenting science and education in an exciting and memorable way.”

The prime contractor for the Kalamazoo Air Museum said: “Virtalis has proved to be a fundamental component in the development and delivery of Kalamazoo, allowing us to meet the customer’s requirements and price scale. Since the implementation, the Salute to the Heroes film has played thousands of times.”

Other projects in which we were involved in the entertainment and heritage field include Lowry’s art, the Millennium Dome, Stonehenge and Virtual Archery.
