STAFF and students at the University of Warwick have long dreaded that point in the Warwick's biochemistry degree when lecturers have to attempt to explain the arcane and intricate three-dimensional geometry of protein structures obtained by X-ray crystallography. Now, thanks to Virtalis, these daunting lectures have been transformed into one of the biochemistry degree's most unusual learning experiences - something Warwick University believes is more akin to a 3D cinema experience. |

SPECIALIST research using real time Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data was the springboard for the new Virtalis VR system on the University of Genoa’s Savona Campus. Prof. Carlo Cravero explained: “We have established links with the University of Cambridge, who also use a Virtalis StereoWorks system to understand flow. We hope to take our research one step further and develop an interactive system using haptic devices to alter the CFD data in real time. We call this “flow sculpting” and it will allow us to modify the geometry, thus facilitating real design improvements.” |

VIRTALIS, the leading specialist visualisation company, has developed the Virtalis Visionary Framework, a technology to get more value from PC clustering. Although the Visionary Cluster can act on its own, it can also be harnessed to PTC’s high end, visualisation software, DIVISION MockUp. When working in tandem in this way, Virtalis’ “MockUp on a PC Cluster” allows the manipulation of large data models. As the new Visionary system requires off-the-shelf PCs, rather than the traditional supercomputer often expected of 3D visualisation, both purchase and maintenance costs are exceedingly low. |
