A scan of Lucy's distal ulna using Fast SCANSHARED research between the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester is providing academics with an additional insight into the sphere of bio mechanics.  The team is in receipt of two grants from the Natural Environment Research Council and National Geographic and is carrying out research into the locomotion of dinosaurs and early hominids.

Coventry University students understanding and interacting with Stereo 3D models from VirtalisCOVENTRY University has long been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for automotive design. Now its undergraduate and postgraduate students are to get a bit more help in the shape of a Virtalis StereoWorks passive 3D stereo visualisation system. The massive flat panel screen is mounted on the floor, so virtual vehicles can drive right out, enabling tutors and students to see the design at its intended size.

A user interacts with CFD data in real time using a Virtalis StereoWorks systemSPECIALIST research using real time Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data was the springboard for the new Virtalis VR system on the University of Genoa’s Savona Campus. Prof. Carlo Cravero explained: “We have established links with the University of Cambridge, who also use a Virtalis StereoWorks system to understand flow. We hope to take our research one step further and develop an interactive system using haptic devices to alter the CFD data in real time. We call this “flow sculpting” and it will allow us to modify the geometry, thus facilitating real design improvements.”

Using its own Visionary Render software, Virtalis has developed a 3D virtual tour of the whole ship, from pre-existing digital designs, and a detailed 3D virtual model of critical areas with interactive features for both familiarisation and job training.

EnvisionTEC PerfactoryVIRTALIS, best known for being Europe’s top Virtual Reality Company, has extended its rapid prototyping capability by becoming a reseller in the UK for EnvisionTEC’s Perfactory product range of 3D printers.
