SHARED research between the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester is providing academics with an additional insight into the sphere of bio mechanics. The team is in receipt of two grants from the Natural Environment Research Council and National Geographic and is carrying out research into the locomotion of dinosaurs and early hominids.
Following the recent dramatic expansion of the sales team at Virtalis, the Virtual Reality Company has just appointed a new marketing facilitator and sales co-ordinator. Alex Wright joins Virtalis from market-leading, global CAD Company, Dassault Systemes where she was responsible for the marketing function in the UK for its key DELMIA brand. 
FRENCH energy equipment manufacturer, AREVA T&D, has been working with Virtalis to create a stereoscopic 3D virtual show room for its sales and marketing team and believes it has yielded real dividends.
COVENTRY University has long been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for automotive design. Now its undergraduate and postgraduate students are to get a bit more help in the shape of a Virtalis StereoWorks passive 3D stereo visualisation system. The massive flat panel screen is mounted on the floor, so virtual vehicles can drive right out, enabling tutors and students to see the design at its intended size. 
UP TO 425 students will be able to simultaneously receive teaching using 3D resources thanks to the installation of a huge Virtalis StereoWorks system in the new Charles Darwin Lecture Theatre at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). 
CNH CASE NEW HOLLAND, a leading agricultural and construction equipment company and part of the Fiat Group, has just taken delivery of an integrated Virtual Reality (VR) system from Virtalis. This is CNH’s first foray into advanced visualisation and its associated technologies. It therefore sought guidance from other parts of the Fiat Group, including CRF, Elasis, Iveco and Fiat Auto and also from Virtalis, one of the world’s leading visualisation companies. 
STAFF and students at the University of Warwick have long dreaded that point in the Warwick's biochemistry degree when lecturers have to attempt to explain the arcane and intricate three-dimensional geometry of protein structures obtained by X-ray crystallography. Now, thanks to Virtalis, these daunting lectures have been transformed into one of the biochemistry degree's most unusual learning experiences - something Warwick University believes is more akin to a 3D cinema experience. 
VIRTALIS, the European leading VR Company, has just installed a custom configured, InterSense, IS-900 motion tracking system in BAE Systems Active Cockpit Rig (ACR) which was developed for Typhoon pilots. The hybrid inertial-acoustic IS-900 system is coupled with an area-of-interest eye-tracking system, ensuring that the BAE Systems configuration delivers real-time tracking of head position and orientation, as well as monitoring the movement of the pilot's eyes.
TO FURTHER boost its position as the leading Virtual Reality Company in Europe, Virtalis has recruited three new members for its specialist sales team. David Cockburn-Price, Virtalis MD, explained: “We just didn’t have the sales resource before to really reach out, both in the domestic market and in the increasingly important international one. Over the last three years, we have been transforming Virtalis into a marketing led technology company and this investment is a timely development.” 
A COLLABORATION between Sarah Baillie, a veterinary surgeon and LIVE Fellow in Veterinary Practice at the Royal Veterinary College and previously a researcher at The University of Glasgow, and Virtalis, Europe’s leading Virtual Reality (VR) and Advanced Visualisation Company, has seen the creation of an innovative Haptic Cow, which allows trainee vets to explore a virtual model instead of a real animal. 
AS PART of a spectacular, new 360o laser projection system at the Virtual Development and Training Centre (VDTC) based at Fraunhofer Institut for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg, Germany, Virtalis has installed its Visionary PC Cluster System. 
SPECIALIST research using real time Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data was the springboard for the new Virtalis VR system on the University of Genoa’s Savona Campus. Prof. Carlo Cravero explained: “We have established links with the University of Cambridge, who also use a Virtalis StereoWorks system to understand flow. We hope to take our research one step further and develop an interactive system using haptic devices to alter the CFD data in real time. We call this “flow sculpting” and it will allow us to modify the geometry, thus facilitating real design improvements.” 
VIRTALIS has joined forces with another Virtual Reality pioneer, Virtools by becoming the only reseller for Virtools in the UK. 
VIRTALIS, the virtual defence training specialist company, has worked closely with BAE SYSTEMS and the VEGA Group PLC (VEGA) to support the contract for the creation of a package of First of Class training material for the Royal Navy’s new Type 45 Anti Air Warfare Destroyer. Using its own Visionary Render software, Virtalis has developed a 3D virtual tour of the whole ship, from pre-existing digital designs, and a detailed 3D virtual model of critical areas with interactive features for both familiarisation and job training. 
WITH A top research rating of 5, The Department of Geology at Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) is at the forefront of research into the geology of sedimentary basins, tectonics and environmental geology. The Department’s new 3D visualisation suite now boasts a Virtalis StereoWorks System, as well as impressive suites of dedicated software.

NOTTINGHAM Trent University’s School of Computing and Informatics has taken delivery of two Virtalis advanced visualisation systems. These comprise a portable StereoWorks system and a workstation complete with Head Mounted Display and tracking system able to give a complete immersive experience. 
BOTH the Defence Helicopter Flying School, 60 Squadron, and its SARTU (Search and Rescue Training Unit) have been using Virtalis’ Helicopter Crew Reality virtual training system for several months. The feedback from both course instructors and students is resoundingly positive.
THE RECRUITMENT of Simon Gee as a business development manager by Virtalis, Europe’s top 3D advanced visualisation Company, will provide a further boost to the Firm’s global commercial focus.
