David is the Virtalis Group's Managing Director and Finance Director. He read Medicine at Cambridge University with a second tripos in History of Art (well, variety is the spice of life!). He then trained to be a Chartered Accountant, qualifying with Touche Ross in Manchester before joining Coopers and Lybrand as an audit manager in its Liverpool office. After the merger with Price Waterhouse, David moved back to Manchester as a senior manager and headed up the firm’s Industrial and Building Products Business Advisory Services Group. 
A graduate of Salford University with a degree in Physical Electronics, he played a key role in the University’s Material Science Group, researching 3D visualisation and image processing, control hardware and software for scanning tunnelling microscopy, and graphical user interfaces for scientific applications. He joined the company in 1991 and helped launch the company’s pioneering Virtual Reality Simulation Initiative, VRS, in 1993. Since then he has played an instrumental part in delivering professional VR demonstrators - ranging from aero engine and submarine compartment prototypes to virtual supermarkets, nuclear control rooms, nanotechnology applications, television programmes and town planning to industrial collaborators and clients. 
With an impressive career encompassing the Army and partnerships at Deloitte & Touche, Arthur Andersen, Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and Cap Gemini, Tom now offers consultancy to high tech businesses all over the North West. 
Richard is Virtalis's Development Team Manager. He graduated from Staffordshire University in 1993 with a BSc (Hons) in Computing Science and joined the company in 1994 as a Software Engineer.
David is responsible for the Group's sales of training systems and products to the Defence industry, as well as products to our wider commercial customers. He has spent some 30 years in sales, sales management and general management roles in the computer software and services industries, working for such international organisations as ITT Data Services and Computer Sciences Corporation. 
Mike Gavins has been Virtalis's senior engineer since 1994. His career in the electronics/computer industry, working for Salford Electrical Instruments Ltd (a GEC Company), began in 1961 at a time when the silicon transistor was only just being introduced and the integrated circuit was generally unknown. In 1964 Mike moved into the computer industry with ICT (now ICL) and later took up a design engineering post with Ferranti. 
After graduating in Software Engineering at Salford University, Kieran spent 3 years developing distribution software for a Manchester based software house, before joining us in 1999 to develop VR applications. He is now our Senior Programmer. 
Tim is our Senior Modeller. he joined Virtalis in 1997, having previously studied for an HND (Higher National Diploma) in Audio and Video Systems and for a first degree in Video, Imaging and Communication Technology at Salford University. 
James is a recent addition to the Virtalis Development team and, at 23, is also the youngest acquisition so far (born in the 80s, good grief!). Fresh out of Sheffield Hallam University where he studied Computing Visualisation to BSc (Hons) level, Virtalis is his first major break in the graphics industry. Virtalis Group
